Penske Test Race Track Specifics
I would like for everyone who visits this site to know some of the specifics....
1) That Penske is actually planning 4 tracts. One the size of Richmond, one the size of Bristol Road Course, and a 1/4 mile track (although there is no 1/4 mile tract in Nascar).
2)That up to 5 race cars will be allowed on the "test" tract at one time.
3)That the tracks will be opened up to other types of motorsports and that there will be no limit on the number of those cars.
4)That, the last we heard, they were planning to open these tracks seven days a week.

Iredell County Noise Ordinance
Sec. 7.5-22. Loud, disturbing and unnecessary noises prohibited. The creation of any unreasonably loud, disturbing and unnecessary noise in Iredell County is prohibited. Noise of such character, intensity, and duration as to be detrimental to the health, safety, or welfare of any individual is prohibited.(Ord. of 12-19-89, § 2; Ord. of 5-6-97)

1) Radios, phonographs, etc. The playing of any radio, phonograph, jukebox, piccolo, or other music recordation playing or amplification device, or any musical instrument in such manner or with such volume as to annoy or disturb any person or in such manner as to annoy or disturb the quiet, comfort, or repose of any person.
2) Pets. The keeping of any animal, bird, or other pet which, by causing frequent or long-continued noise, shall disturb the comfort or repose of any reasonable person.(3) Use of vehicle. The use of any automobile, motor-propelled boat, motorcycle, or other vehicle or motor-propelled craft so out of repair, so loaded or operated, or used as to create loud, unnecessary or disturbing noises.

(5) Loudspeakers or amplifiers on vehicles. The use of any mechanical loudspeaker or amplifier of any type on any automobile, truck, airplane or other vehicle for advertising or for other purposes, except by special permission from the Sheriff of Iredell County.
(6) Business noises near residences. The operation of any garage, filling station, automobile sales or repair business, taxi business, plant, store, factory, or other business of any type between the hours of nine o\'clock p.m. and seven o\'clock a.m. in such manner as to create loud and disturbing noises of such frequency or volume as to annoy or disturb the quiet, comfort, peace, or repose of any person in any dwelling, hotel, boarding house, or other type of residence or church, or place of religious worship.
(7) Noises near schools, hospitals, churches, etc. The creation of any excessive noise on any street adjacent to any school, institution of learning, library, sanitorium, hospital, or court while the same is in session, or adjacent to any church during church services or education, which interferes with work or worship in any such place or institution

Subject: Request for help
Thank you for your service to our county. As a friend and neighbor and one who worked with you to grow Mooresville from a "cotton mill " town to the thriving community we have today . I ask you to honor the foundation that helped us arrive and not allow us to be drown in unnecessary noise . I have attached a copy of Iredell's noise ordinance, and a variance violates every intent in the ordinance. Plus you are being ask to increase smoke and fumes emissions, exactly what does that mean and where does it stop. I hear a person should be able to do on their property and I support that but I believe God intended us to consider how what we do affects our neighbor. And one purpose of government is to protect those who cannot protect themselves ( churches and day care center near the noise source plus us neighbors ). Do you really want Mooresville to become dependent on racing as the new "cotton " in town ? Or should we have continued balanced growth ? I support balanced growth so that we are not held hostage like Concord and the racing industry has a history of moving at their pleasure. I ask for your support of your neighbors .
